Arthur On Nanotechnology Commercialization
SouthWest NanoTechnologies Inc. CEO Dave Arthur will speak at the 2009 NanoBusiness Conference on Tuesday, Sept. 8 in Chicago.
"From Nanotechnology to NanoBusiness: Commercializing Carbon Nanotubes" will be presented at the Chicago Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, 10:45 a.m.
The company recently secured a $3 million investment from Insight Technology Capital Partners, LP, a growth capital fund based in Troy, Michigan.
Arthur is a leading expert in the field of carbon nanotubes, and is president and co-founder of Chasm Technologies in Canton, Mass., a company that helps clients commercialize new products using novel nanomaterials.
Arthur holds an MBA from Northeastern University, and a masters from the University of Connecticut and a BS in chemical engineering from Tufts University.

Spider Venom Powers Ground-breaking Company

How does a spider immobilize its prey? What chemicals are used and how do those combinations work?
Venomix is developing a new generation of insecticides using peptides from spiders. The company's technology is based on ground-breaking research conducted at the University of Connecticut.
More than 50 unique, insecticidal spider peptides have been identified, and the patented technology is exclusively licensed to Venomix.
Products under development have a unique mode of action, are highly effective against insects and related pests and are harmless to non-target species, including humans. Target markets include agriculture, animal health and specialty non-crop uses such as household insects.

UConn Women 2009 NCAA Champs Parade
The State of Connecticut and the City of Hartford will host a parade for the University of Connecticut women's basketball team for winning the 2009 NCAA National Basketball Championship on Sunday, April 19.
The UConn women won their sixth NCAA Basketball Championship on April 7 by beating the Louisville Cardinals in St. Louis. They finished the season undefeated and were the regular season champions of the Big East and the winners of the conference tournament championship.
The 3 p.m. parade, which will take place near the Bushnell Park, Main Street and Capitol Avenue areas of the city, will begin and end at the State Capitol. A rally will take place on the north steps of the Capitol immediately following the parade.
The UConn parade planning committee is coordinated by Governor Rell's office, the Hartford Business Improvement District and the MetroHartford Alliance and consists of representatives from the Office of the Governor, the State of Connecticut, the City of Hartford, the University of Connecticut, the Hartford Hospitality Task Force and civic organizations and businesses from throughout the Greater Hartford region.
