Middlesex Community College Foundation

The Middlesex Community College Foundation has elected new officers and members to its board of directors.

They are: George Eames IV, president, Lee Manufacturing, Wallingford, chairman; Mark Benigni, Meriden superintendent of schools, vice chairman; Anne Cassady, Middlesex Community College professor emerita, secretary. Middletown attorney Jule Crawford, realtor, and former Middletown school board member Jay Keiser were also elected to the foundation board of directors.

Cassady was a regular board of directors member before being elected as secretary, and the other four members are new to the board. The 12-member board elects its own members.

The other board of directors members are: Garrett Birdsey, Sheila Iglesias, James Shapiro, Marci Swede and Judith Felton, all of Middletown; Richard Muniz, Hamden; and Ellen Long of Rocky Hill.

A Special Event At Arlington House

Arlington House, Robert E. Lee’s pre-war home (now in Arlington National Cemetery), hosts a special evening program Oct. 16 focused on the presidential election of 1860. The event, which includes living history, music and a mock election, is by reservation only.

Arlington House is part of the National Park Service. The structure was the home of Robert E. Lee and his family for 30 years. George Washington Parke Custis built the house to be his home and a memorial to George Washington, his step-grandfather. It is now preserved as a memorial to General Lee, who gained the respect of Americans in both the North and the South.
