William Pesce, president and CEO of John Wiley & Sons, Inc., announced the appointment of Stephen Smith as executive vice president, COO, effective May 1, 2009.
Smith will be responsible for the overall direction and leadership of Wiley’s global publishing businesses. He is relocating to Wiley’s global headquarters in Hoboken, N.J., from Chichester, UK, where he is currently based.
John Wiley & Sons, Inc. and its acquired companies have published the works of more than 350 Nobel laureates.
Core businesses include scientific, technical, medical and scholarly journals, encyclopedias, books, and online products and services; professional/trade books, subscription products, training materials, and online applications and Web sites. Operations locations include the U.S., Europe, Asia, Canada and Australia.
The company is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbols JWa and JWb.
