Governor Dannel Malloy will meet with President of Ireland Michael Higgins and First Lady Sabina Higgins during a reception at the Consulate General of Ireland in New York City.
President Higgins is currently visiting the U.S. for the first time since taking office in November.
Governor Malloy said he was honored to accept the invitation from the Irish Consulate and hopes to use the event as an opportunity to reaffirm the relationship between Connecticut
and the Irish government.
“In today’s global economy, it’s more important than ever to build alliances, strengthen relationships and communicate with those abroad about all that Connecticut has to offer,” Governor Malloy said. "The
ties between Ireland and the United States run deep in our history. It’s a relationship that has served both countries well and one that must continue in the years ahead. I want to thank the consulate for
their invitation and look forward to welcoming newly elected President Higgins and the First Lady to the U.S.”
President Higgins will spend four days in New York City, which will be followed by two days in Boston before returning to Ireland.
