Brockton, Massachusetts, once known as the shoe capital of the world, will revive its legacy with the show, curated by Wendy Tarlow Kaplan, who has strong family ties to the town's shoe industry. Kaplan studied at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and has worked as an curator for more than 30 years, specializing in contemporary art. She is curator for the Kniznick Gallery of the Women’s Studies Research Center at Brandeis University.
Castano was born and raised in Brockton, where her father and his twin brother founded Twin Leather Company, now owned and operated by her brother, Richmond Castano. The artist is now a Vermont resident.
Fuller Craft Museum, next to D.W. Field Park at 455 Oak St., is open from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Admission to Fuller Craft is $8 for adults, $5 for seniors and students, free for members and children 12 and under.
