A cell phone is a portable computing device that allows access to a world of information.

Verizon Wireless has invested more than $2.5 billion into its New England network over the past nine years, including more than $105 million during the first six months of 2009, according to company reports.

Cell site provides increased wireless voice and 3G data coverage at Rentschler Field and the surrounding area paves the way for expanded 3G data coverage in the East Hartford region.

“We’ve invested billions of dollars into New England believing that even the most sophisticated cell phone is only as good as the network it runs on," said Richard Enright, director, Network System Performance, Verizon Wireless.

The company has invested more than $50 billion since its inception to increase the wireless voice and data coverage of its national network and to add new 3G services such as mobile broadband and V CAST.

In other news this year, the company and Google announced a strategic partnership to deliver leading-edge mobile applications, services and devices.

The company serves 89 million customers, and is headquartered in Basking Ridge, N.J., with 85,000 employees nationwide.
